Frequently asked questions - Alka® Tabs Original

What is the difference between Alka® tabs and the Alka® drops?

The major difference is that the Alka® Drops stimulate a body-own process; producing bicarbonate. This is a normal every day process but now stimulated more so excess acid-waste is removed. The Alka® Tabs already contain bicarbonate and dissolve in de duodenum, from where the bicarbonate is being absorbed through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream. In short, the Alka® Drops provide an indirect supply and the Alka® Tabs of a direct supply of bicarbonate.

Do you have to take the Alka® tabs on an empty stomach?

No, they work best if you take them during or right after a meal. The special enteric coating dissolves in the duodenum. Do not take the Alka® Tabs together with water in which the Alka® Drops are resolved. Due to the high pH level, the water will corrode the enteric coating.

What is the difference between Alka® tabs calcium and Alka® tabs original?

Alka® Tabs Calcium consists of calcium carbonate in pure form. The tablet dissolves in the intestines and enters the blood stream through the intestinal wall. By reaction with carbonic acid, the carbonate is converted to bicarbonate and thus increases the alkaline buffer. Additionally, pure ionized calcium is added to the body, which is good for the bones. On the contrary, Alka® Tabs Original is a tablet that already consists of bicarbonate. Alka® Tabs Original is immediately absorbed into the blood by the intestinal wall.
Alka® Tabs Calcium is a good choice for people who cannot take sodium and/or potassium or that suffer from bone decalcification.

Can the Alka® drops be used in combination with the Alka® tabs?

The Alka® Drops can be combined with the Alka® Tabs. Both products have the same purpose, de-acidification by adding bicarbonate to the body, but work in different ways. Alka® Tabs contain bicarbonate and the Alka® Drops ensure that your body produces the bicarbonate itself.
A combination of these two products increases the dosage and accelerates the process.

What should I do if I am experiencing too many de-acidification symptoms?

What you can do if you are experiencing too many de-acidification symptoms is reducing the dose or take 1 or 2 days of rest. Drink a lot of water and tea without the drops in those 2 days. This will slow down or temporarily stop the active de-acidification process and gives the body a rest (you will often feel better). After 2 days, you can slowly restart the active de-acidification process. Adjust the dose based on your own feeling.
