Frequently asked questions - Alka® Drops
Can I use the Alka® drops in (reversed) osmotic or distilled water?
Yes but keep the following in mind; (reversed) osmotic or distilled water has a very low pH level because of its purity. So pure that it will absorb carbon dioxide from the air. When you add the Alka® Drops, the carbon dioxide will act as a buffer, preventing the pH level to rise. In order to let the pH level rise sufficiently, it is necessary to add a lot more drops ( > 9 instead of 3 drops usually). By using a pH tester you can monitor the right level, a level higher than pH 8 is advisable for a good result.
Are the Alka® drops suitable for kids?
Yes it is and it is perfectly safe. For kids under 12 we advise an adjusted dosage of 2 glasses per day with 3 drops.
Sometimes, after I’ve added the Alka® drops, I see some white residue in my glass after a while. What is this?
The white residue is just calcification and occurs sometimes when the calcium level in the water is high. By adding the Alka® Drops, the present calcium reacts with the hydroxide ions (OH) and becomes calcium hydroxide. The calcium hydroxide then reacts with the carbon dioxide (CO2) to calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Eventually this causes the white residue in your glass. Calcium carbonate is not dangerous, however it does influence the effectiveness as the pH decreases (OH ions are used in this calcification process). To avoid the water scale, keep alkaline water sealed so that it does not react with the CO2 in the air. The reason why calcification occurs more in one water source than the other is due to the calcium content.
What is the difference between Alka® tabs and the Alka® drops?
The major difference is that the Alka® Drops stimulate a body-own process; producing bicarbonate. This is a normal every day process but now stimulated more so excess acid-waste is removed. The Alka® Tabs already contain bicarbonate and dissolve in de duodenum, from where the bicarbonate is being absorbed through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream. In short, the Alka® Drops provide an indirect supply and the Alka® Tabs of a direct supply of bicarbonate.
Is it possible to boil alkaline water? Is it still alkaline after boiling?
Yes, if you make your water alkaline with the Alka® Drops, you can simply boil the water without changing the pH value.
